This weekend at Mac Track in Mcminville, OR was the final moped race of the year and it was an exciting one. JJ and I both debuted new race motors for the final weekend to mixed results. Matt Hoffman showed up with a newly tuned hobbit racer that was surprisingly fast and made for a great race. Bob on the puch corba and Patrick on the grander rounded out the pack.
The entire season has been rocky with rain cancellations, track cancellations, and everyone going to moped rallies instead of the track so from the original 7 points races for the year 4 races from that counted towards the total. Mopeds did not ride PGP, Medford, or Canada and only raced at Pats and Mac with some time in the parking lot of PIR. Attendance was sporadic but some of us were at every race, sometimes outnumbering the scooters.
Blessed are the few because for the first time in a week it didn't rain all damn day. Practice was good but low in numbers for everyone but us. So all the track time you could handle. Race day was the same with it just being us so again, all the damn riding you can handle. We stepped up, got people to flag and take scores and things were off. Heat race was good. So was the open class race with all the bikes on the grid at the same time. Patrick crashed in the scooter vintage class and did not ride in the main. I broke a motor mount off my frame and couldn't finish. But it was no matter because Matt Hoffman, out of nowhere for the year scores a clean victory over JJ and takes the win, with Bob rounding out the top three.
Season over, points added up, awards given. JJ finished every damn race of the year so he gets all the points in the world. I made up my lack of finishing by winning the ones I did finish and Eric made a pretty damn fine showing all year on the 103. Thanks to everyone else that came out and played: Ted Thayer, Matt Hoffman, Josh Jontig, Patrick, and Bob Hansen. To everyone else, get out here and ride.
