Anyone got some hot new stuff to talk about in the off season. This is getting kind of stagnant. Perhaps some throw-down smack talk about racing next year. Yer mom etc?! Man, I hate the off season.

I keep coming here everyday hoping to see something crazy YOU are building!
Here is my plan for next year:
Auto class: batavus derbi is going MHR 70 / watercooled. maybe I wont get lapped by Brian.
Mopeds: gonna lighten up the motobecane , brace up the motor mounts and reconfigure the pegs, run it with the current engine setup and run it with the variated mopeds. I also sourced a puch e50 engine to build up a Superstock non variated bike. I will likely run a polini 64 cc reed cylinder, and a stock clutch. Plan is to get the lightest frame possible, (likely rigid in the rear,) source out some aluminum spoked rims, basically see how light weight I can make it. It should be a fun challenge.
Under 190 : planning to retire the white 50 and run My black pk 50 with a new engine build. Thinking of trying the polini w force (falc copy) Or build a falc setup.
Over 190: Just need to finish up the build on the red racer with the longstroke malossi setup. Pretty much just need to come up with a better headset solution, then tune in the carb .

Sounds like you got some work to do. I did a tear down on the Derbi to see what makes it tick. After much interweb research I have learned a bit about Derbi and Piaggio engines. It turns out that the 50cc piaggios in Europe can be made to go real fast because you can swap out the crank for a stroker with 12mm wrist pin and get a sick top end to go with it. The Derbi i have is the last year with the spanish Derbi engine which only has replacement stock cranks available. The stock crank only has a 10mm wrist pin so there are no sick kits available. The best you can get is a mildly tuned malossi 68cc which is already on there. I have tuned the cylinder a bit but it will never be a 24hp engine like Drat has on the Derbi Atlantis with the Piaggio engine. Bummer! Being that i have no regi i think it will still be a racer next year. It should still kick ass on the Jog Auto i raced last year.

doh. Any chance you can swap your conrod out on the stock crank for the 12 pin conrod?

Have you talked with Josh about this? I may be able to work some magic on that crank....

I had that same bike and just sold it to john, who swapped it for a car. HAHA. This was the crank I was going to try - if I couldnt sell it: tinyurl.com/7bnfntkNot much available anymore for that thing , unless its in EU, or an ebay appearance. I ran the polini kit on mine. It was ok, but the real difference was with a performance clutch and messing with the springs. I also had a turbo kit pipe and variator. Didnt notice much with those. Found a Metrakit BBK from someone in Hawaii the day I received the polini. fuck. In the end I never put on my metrakit cylinder and the malossi variator which I found from a local shop, so I might have those for sale. John Quintos also has that same bike (we raced them once) and he mentioned we wanted the metrakit, but he's got so much other shit going on. If your interested I can check to see if john still wants it and if not I can sell it to you. I can look up the part numbers tonite off the box. Its the best BBK for that engine. With the clutch and variator and pipe they claimed 18hp I think. You'd have to check the website though to confirm.

Good Idea Dayn. I know Josh has that fancy press for separating cranks.
I suppose I need to figure out what size the large pin is then find a crank arm of the desired length with a matching big pin and 12mm wrist pin. After that all I would need is a totally sick top end that roughly matches the engine cases. A bit of machining on the cases or the cylinder bolt holes may be required.
Or maybe it's just a silly twist and go. A silly twist and go with 13" rims, 130/60-13 Heidinau Racer tires, front and rear disc brakes, showa inverted front forks, Mikuni 24mm carb, CR80 reed valve, Malossi ignition, Malossi Var, Hebo clutch, Malossi upgears, Ecologic pipe, bla bla bla. This thing would be rad with a nice power plant.
Hey Scosiety, if let me know about the Metrakit BBK but I think that's for the air cooled version. This thing is liquid. I am currently running the Malossi LC 68cc kit.
