the tracks are pretty interesting in the UK.. too big for a scooters in my opinion. its probably just right for SV 650s, or road race 450 superbikes.. as motorcycles have gotten more technologically advanced the tracks really haven't other than a few of the larger more funded ones like Silverstone. Cadwell is a big furry hair ball event on big bikes, and it seems a little mundane with scooters.

anyway.. i watch a lot of BSB on bit torrents (British Super Bikes), and Cadwell is one of my favorites to watch...

its interesting seeing the scooters going around for sure...

but the reason i like watching Cadwell is this....

Cadwell full circuit as shown on the video is about the biggest circuit we use regularly.

I think what you need to bear in mind is that the scooters we are racing here have been developed with the use of bigger circuits in mind..... The front running Lambrettas have 38-41 HP, well capable of 100mph+

dont get me wrong, it would still be fun, i just meant that watching Brookes going over the hill is a lot more fun to watch from a spectator point of view..

the size of the grids and the varying types of classes is whats really awesome to see for sure! and that makes me jealous!

yea! thats what i am talking about! certainly the stock P200 i have been running, the straits would be painfully long anywhere... i could read a book and make some tea....

typical UK to US differences is, your big tracks are really tight and small compared to ours, over here the big tracks .. are just that.. too big for scooters and the cart/motard tracks are a wee bit too small in places, it would be nice to have some top gear sweepers mixed in with the wiggley bits..

i have heard of some talk of a second track configuration at our local car/superbike track ( Portland International Raceway) that would use the existing turns one thru 5 and then add a section running back and coming back out at the inside of turn one.. and that would be PERFECT.. big enough to open up scooters and smaller cc bikes on as well as proper shifter carts, and compared to mallory and cadwell you could go 15 bikes wide everywhere, which would create some interesting lines...

hard to say if it will happen, the motorcycle industry has been hit pretty hard here withe the economy, with track day and race organizations drying up their track time, and the tracks couldn't care.. their money is all thrown into hot rod culture.. Cars rule over here unfortunately..

hey Paul.. sorry, i admit my scooter racing knowledge is very slim to to nil out side my invlovement with the PSRA this year. but i make up for it as i am a super big know it all most of the time about everything else.

.. are the fastest open bikes the gp 6?


Also, i was trying to find BSSO on mylaps, or even VMCC, so i could compare lap times as i see your organization uses AMB (something i think would be very awesome for us to use).. searching names in the UK AMB data base did me no help either..

the reason i ask is i would like to see us get on the full size track here, but there is a lot of resistance to scooters on the full track. I think its primarily perceived safety issue with closing speeds when running with another class... we ran an exhibition race here at a national vintage race and we were not able to run the full track...

however, using your club as a benchmark, as far as lap times..... comparing them to 200cc open vintage bikes could be just the knowledge i need to do some convincing..

i did find some times for vintage 200 cc jap 4 strokes which helped..

Cadwell is 2.17 miles and a top finishing vintage 200 cc Japanese 4 stroke can do mid 1.52 around there with an average speed of 69 miles an hour...

PIR is 1.9 miles long and a top finishing vintage 2V (typical 160-200cc) vintage Japanese 4 stroke can do 1.47's with an average speed of 67-ish...

the only problem is that our front strait at the big track is a half of a mile long, if not more.., as it is used often for local and national drags..

to give you an idea, I typically hit an indicated 180mph before i throw on the binders for turn one... and bone stock track guy GSXRs do that easily without even getting a good drive out of the last turn..

thats a pretty long time time covering the clutch at full speed on a scooter, but i faith in Patrick! he can build it to suit i am sure!


it goes to common sense if your top 5 scooter guys/gals can produce lap times in the ball park of 200 cc vintage motorbike guys/gals at Cadwell, so should our top guys....


meaning ... we might be able to do a wave start and be able to piggy back on to the 160 races here with some inventive tech rules, and some poking and prodding...


the time to start this process is soon, as it will have to go before the board.

I know Patrick has voiced his want to run the full track... how about anyone else? i wonder if my instructor status at OMRRA would grant me the ablity to run a scoot around at lunch with my AMB on it to get a base time...

if anyone can help me find out scooter lap times for Cadwell that will help me in my quest for knowledge!

Hi.....

Theres little difference really between our top Gp 4 and Gp 6 scooters......

winning lap times from Sept 25th were 1 min 59 secs

lap times in 2009 were 2-3 secs quicker due to better weather conditions......
