Ditching the headset on my prima for a custom setup. I found a good push/pull throttle setup with an alu tube, now need to find clutch lever and perch that will fit and still clear the pulley housing. I've been looking all over but so far most of them break to the inside immediately after the bar mount - not great. None appear to have enough meat to modify without seriously weakening the perch. Looking for ideas.
Thanks
Mike

Weird, I have been trying to find the same thing all week with no luck, I am about to give up and order the mbd shifter. some people have suggested modifying a ld shifter. don think it would be too easy or cheap. lets get creative and make something new. check this out... Cheap?

I like the MBD unit but haven't seen it in stock anywhere. Having already invested in a push/pull throttle I'd like to to see my plan through... tough search though. Those assemblies that would not rub the pulley housing either do not allow for lever swaps to dogleg style (due to oddball designs), or are around $225 (that's a new cylinder!). I've considered mounting the perch in a fixed position but that's not ideal either - one or two gear changes would be do-able but not quick 4 to 2 or 1. Would also make for a very tired left hand.
The price sure is right on that moped assembly. I wonder how much abuse it could take.
Have quite a few ebay items watched, and am heading out to the cycle salvage today, will post what I get.
Thanks JJ

Beedspeed also has one which is essentially what you are trying to accomplish: beedspeed.com/product_info.php/cPath/84_192/products_id/2316A friend of mine tried that moped one but the throw is not enough to get into fourth. I tried the push pull throttle setup but wasn't really happy with it as the throw was still pretty small. The LD ones will work I know someone that ran that and I'd say that would be choice number 2 after the MB one. The MBD one is the way to go. They are a bit expensive but worth it. If they are no longer available I could draw one up and have some made if there was interest. It wouldn't be cheap though.

The unit I ended up with has a fairly large pulley that is similar in size to the original, if not slightly larger. This is causing my clearance issues! I'll take a look at the beedspeed and lambrettaworks listings. My main problem is that I'm doing this on a nearly non-existent budget. Was able to get the push/pull at a great price. Thanks Dayn I tried the push pull throttle setup but wasn't really happy with it as the throw was still pretty small.

After hitting up all of the online resources I know of and visiting some bike shops and the salvage yard, still coming up empty handed. Those perches I can find either won't take a short lever or don't have enough material to allow boring to fit the throttle tube. Suspending my search for a little while to work on the engine and the other controls...

Hey Mike, I used one these MSR perches without the plastic spacer: If you know what dimensions are critical for you I can take the calipers to it. If it works I can bring it down to the meeting on Dec 13th if you are going? Cheers, Dayn

Dayn,
That looks like it would fit if I swapped the adjuster for one sans thumbwheel. I take it the bore of the perch is larger than 7/8"? If you wouldn't mind measuring without the spacer that's pretty much all I need to know. Found one similar to this on ebay for $30 total.
I was planning on going to the meeting but it looks like we have family coming to town that day. So far I haven't been able to talk my way out of it...
Thanks much!
Mike

Finally made it to my garage last night. Without the spacer it measures 0.995" It's a perfect fit over the plastic push pull throttle I was going to use it with. Where are you? I can bring it to the meeting to give to someone of you can't make it? $20 sound fair? It's basically new, I set it up then decided to go the MB route after trying to shift with it in my parking garage.
Cheers,
Dayn

Dayn,
Jeez, I am pretty dense it seems. I had Pat order me one because I didn't realize you were offering. Don't want to leave you hanging though, so if you were hoping I'd take it I may still. I'll have mine in a few days and if it's not quite right I'll be interested for sure. I ordered the model down from the one you posted.
I'm curious, what was it about the setup that made you decide to scrap it in favor of the MBD unit?
Thanks
Mike

OK - Got this figured out. Picked up the MSR clutch perch and lever from Pat today and it's a perfect fit around the throttle/shifter tube and it clear the pulley housing perfectly. The lever is a bit long but I noticed that the lever from my new brake perch would fit, so I can just order the matching clutch set.
Problem solved!
I'll post some pictures in a day or so.

Now that I've had a chance to try out my selector and clutch lever setup, I thought it would be good to give my impressions of how well it functions. It's not been fully stress tested, but so far I'm pretty damn happy with it. We'll see what happens when it bounces off the pavement a few times... I did have to weld a tab to the handlebar to anchor the housing (was rotating way too easily even with lots of torque on the clamp), but once that was done and things were adjusted, the action is really quite good. Better than stock, in my opinion. Not bad for < $100 This is the lever I bought: www.bikebandit.com/msr-aof-clutch-perch-and-lever (didn't buy from them) and the selector is a push-pull dual cable throttle assembly I found on ebay. Was one of the few with an alu tube. Mike
