Yep.
They want us there is a big way.
May 1st.
We have the first event of the day on Saturday during lunch.
It will be a non-points exhibition event. All safety stuff still applies, but maybe a little more stringent - the lunchtime stands usually have somewhere between 2-2500 people in them @ that time. I am looking at this in terms of generating interest/growing this genre of what we're doing. In that sense, I think this is a good opportunity.
There are a LOT of other activities happening at this event. It is large. There will be LOTS of bikes - mostly old ones.
I probably don't need to say it, but the consensus is that this is a celebration of the history and pursuit of the sport. Lousy attitudes are to be left at the gate, this is about the bikes. This comment isn't necessarily even aimed at us. 'Nuff said.
This is... a bit of a test.
They have not really let scooters or mopeds on the track in this kind of event or format - ever.
We won't get to run the full track. And that's okay. Big tracks are something worth pursuing. This particular track was designed as a car-race track. Which means it's fekkin enormous. Enormous in a big, sweeping, wide, pretty straight and very fast kind of way which I'm sure is a blast in a 100mph+ car, but maybe not the best application for the way we're set up (even the cb160 guys think it's kinda boring).
The portion of the track we will run has never been used the way we are going to use it. The straight sections are larger and longer (1/2 mile) than any of the tracks we've run yet (I can finally use 4th gear!).
They are thinking the price for the day will come to a whopping $20-$35(those quotes include the $10 gate fee).
We get the track for roughly an hour and a half. This includes a brief practice and then a proposed 6-8 lap race. We can do a wave start for mopeds if we want.
In that time, we need some volunteers to get things set up and taken down so that the track may continue with their very tight schedule as soon as we are done.
I'm thinking 6 people could do it. It would be advantageous if they were people who were not necessarily participating in the event otherwise.
Please feel free to PM me if you're interested as the sooner we get those things taken care of, the more fluid this whole thing will be.
We will have our own pit area away from the other stuff going on.
PIR signed a 3 year contract agreement w/ AHRMA. If this goes well this year, they will be even more accommodating at the next one. Some of us may even build faster bikes...

I would like to see this become an annual event with more people.
