*Jamie - yes, we are piggybacking our race schedule onto the OSB (Oregon Super Bikers) events. Scheduling weekends for scooter/moped only events would be profoundly, comically expensive and highly unlikely. We need the high numbers of participants from all the different genres to make this kind of event feasible. There are a couple options being reviewed... There is a sweet track in Medford which may draw out some of our pals in northern & central CA. It is a good 4-5hr drive for us, though. There is the potential to break away from the OSB schedule and do a date in Seattle or Vanc. BC. The options remain open for the moment. - For the curious - Medford track:

has anyone talked about racing out at PIR? I use to watch the road bicycles race out there on Tuesday nights. Not sure if scooters and mopeds are welcome but it seems like having a track in Portland to race at would be pretty sweet... Hook it up Paddy!

It is my understanding that PIR is prohibitively expensive

I have family and friends in Grants Pass/Medford. If we went down three I can find some accommodations for people who don't want to pay for a hotel. I would love to try that track out. I also would be down to carpool to Atwater with some peeps.

*Jeremie - Your enthusiasm rips. PIR has been a sore spot for scooterists for a number of years. Many members of the riding community have gone to the OMRRA (Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association) meetings over the years and petitioned them to make room for us in their race schedule. There appears to be an element there that really doesn't approve of the little bikes on the big track; as time and time again, the most they have ever let us do is have a parade lap or two on Italian Days. They had written into their track rulebook that tires of our size wouldn't be safe on their track... Nevermind that scooter racing in Europe has been utilizing full size tracks for 30+ years. This might be changing in the coming years as there is a big change happening w/in OMRRA this year. Also - AHMRA (American Historical Motorcycle Racing Association) just signed a 3 year contract w/ PIR. They have no such rules written into their guidelines. They do accommodate the vintage 125/250 GP class bikes - which share a few characteristics w/ the bikes we want to run. I did receive an informal invite from their planners to assess interest and see if the local set would be interested in participating in their annual yearly event scheduled in early May of this year. While the large track may be a bit large for mopeds, they mentioned potentially putting together a course that would at least as big as the Atwater/PARC track in the area off of the hot pits. I thought that was a nice effort... The weekend would work out to about $200 in track fees... which is about twice what we're accustomed to... Again - the idea is to assess interest... Thoughts? The picture is a little deceptive - the track is 1.967mi.

If you honestly want thoughts...... I think it would be a great event to get some other people out for a day. It would be a great track for "fast bikes". I personally would prolly skip it since my bike is not one of said "fast bikes"

j2 - I see that the Medford track offers camping... :Dand appears to be closer in actuality to White City? I don't remember much about that area...

To state the obvious...that is Fourth of July weekend, so those of us that work bankers hours will have Monday off. I think it would be a good weekend to travel.

We also aren't necessarily restricted to that weekend. OMRRA has a race the last weekend of the month, and we are trying to facilitate for people who want to do both...

i hate to rain on the parade.. i was the first person to get scooters on the track at PIR.. it was italian days.. that they used to do like 50 years ago.. now there are alot of track day providers for cars and bikes. and national events and OMRRA. the track costs big money.. and to get a 20 minute slot on a race day is gonna be big money.. hahah... cost prohibitive.... ummm an average weekend gets me for a 1000 bucks in OMRRA, with tires, fees, gas, food, etc... racing OMRRA for now is pipe dream unless there is A LOT of us.. money talks... its above 30 grand in operating costs alone a weekend for OMRRA. i could MAYBE see us griding up with a wave start with the 160s, but i highly doubt it.. i tried to get a scooter class like 10 years ago with OMRRA, i got shot down... like i said.. it would have to be A LOT of us... and they might make a concession.. i would be willing to help if i can. but dont get your hopes up.. and it wouldn't happen for a year or 2 until interest was really there.. Patty is totally right about AHMRA, i am racing that this year on my twin, there are alot of obstacles to doing it.. an i don't see it as being realistic... if i can help i will... as a thought.. there were only 2 bikes that lasted more than 2 laps... my cut down P 175 racer, and jasons lammy with the RZ motor in it.. do you run your scooter full throttle for 20 minutes ever? be interesting to see .... and pretty good for patrick and vicotrs business!

Just an FYI,
I'm totally down for racing, however I gotta keep it real. Since I am new to this and I have already signed up for a two month natural building apprenticeship in South Dakota this July/August, and I still have a lot of things to get (clothing wise, knowledge, etc.) I won't be partaking in any actual races this year. However I plan to keep up with this forum, trying to get to know you peeps. I'll work on getting my shit in order for 2011. Just wanted to say my peace so that when those of you that read my posts and then never see me this season won't think I am just typing a bunch of BS.
I hope the P.S.R.A. is here to stay cause I plan to be all over it in 2011
I can't hardly wait.. Peace

If we could do a race in the paddock at PIR during AHRMA (exhibition blah blah) weekend, would anyone be interested? The pocketbikes used to build some cool tracks there...

The paddock racing would be super rad for mopeds, and be a good show of face for future events. I'd be more inclined to look at the actual track for scoots.
